While investigating and drawing abstract organic forms I also explore materials. The material qualities of ink, charcoal and clay are linked to the earth and to my subject matter. Ink has a free-flowing, unexpected quality, which makes me draw more boldly. Sometimes I work quickly with ink then add details, make holes, use tearing and collage. The scribbly marks I make evoke qualities of the seedpods. Mostly I work intuitively until the composition seems right. I also explore arrangements of drawings in multi-panel works as the drawings speak to each other in new ways.
