Artist Statement
Carolyn investigates the shapes, colours and textures found in landscape. She looks for bold forms and layers these, overlapping and interlocking them, the spaces between being as important as the shapes themselves. She is working between the seen and unseen, alluding to the real yet re-imagining it.
Her process involves working from drawing to painting, from observing small details to abstracting them into lines and organic shapes, which evoke the original subject matter but do not represent it exactly. As well as her strong use of colour, mark making, pattern and texture are integral to her work.
